Fox-y lady: Fox 5 finds woman who claims 13-year affair with Herman Cain
Atlanta Fox 5 just dropped another ladybomb on Herman Cain’s struggling Presidential campaign.
Dale “Actually, there is an I in I-Team” Russell interviewed an Atlanta woman named Ginger White who claims she had a 13-year affair with Cain after meeting him at one of his public speaking engagements.
The most interesting detail of the story to me isn’t about the affair, but a haughty statement from Cain’s attorney tacked on to the end of the online version. Instead of denying the story, it instead declares politicians have a right to keep their privates private.
Rather, this appears to be an accusation of private, alleged consensual conduct between adults – a subject matter which is not a proper subject of inquiry by the media or the public. No individual, whether a private citizen, a candidate for public office or a public official, should be questioned about his or her private sexual life. The public’s right to know and the media’s right to report has boundaries and most certainly those boundaries end outside of one’s bedroom door.
The idea that private life and sexual morality should remain private is apparently a new one for Cain. For months he has been making a spectacle of his private piety. And Cain has repeatedly disparaged gay Americans by stating that the institution of marriage needs to be protected from them. Last month Herman Cain told the Christian Broadcasting Network he supports a nationwide Constitutional ban on same-sex marriage. ” I think marriage should be protected at the federal level also,” said Cain.
If it turns out Ginger White’s claims are true, I wonder if he’ll blame the government for not protecting his marriage from the gays.
In the meantime, Cain is denying the allegations.
